1946-2013
David passed away peacefully on May 14th at Le Foyer Notre Dame de Lourdes in Bathurst at the age of 67.
Born in Bathurst, he was the son of the late Herbert and Anita (Nettie) Sealy.
Dave was born a "special" child and received his somewhat unique education in schools located in Canobie, Bathurst and Chatham. None of these institutions granted degrees. David was, however, a teacher, an engineer, a woodsman, a linguist and a student of comparative religion. He was also, on occasion, a musical director. He was, especially in his later years, responsible for maintaining strong family communication between the east and west coasts.
David lived with his parents for 50 years then spent 15 years in the primary care of Alvina Allain, maintaining excellent contact with his parents and siblings throughout that time. He resided at Le Foyer for the last two and a half years and, despite his frail health and struggle with COPD, he generally kept residents and staff smiling during that period.
David is survived by three sisters: Ellen (MacKay), Rosemary (Ronalds), and Kim.
Two brothers: Robert and Doug.
Various in-laws; nine nieces and nephews; and eight grandnieces and grandnephews.
He is also survived by his caregiver, Alvina Allain and her daughter, Shelly, the extended Allain family and by his dear friends: Pauline, Clare and Duke.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday May 21th from 7 to 9 pm at Elhatton’s Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com) Bathurst.
Funeral services will be held at Central United Church in Clifton on Wednesday May 22nd at 3 pm with reception to follow (hosted by members of Eldon’s crowd and others).
Donations in Dave’s memory can be made to Le Foyer Notre Dame de Lourdes or to the Stonehaven-New Bandon Union Cemetery Fund in care of Myra Wiseman (7621 Route 11, Stonehaven, NB E2A 5N7). Any flowers received will be transferred to Le Foyer following the services. Flowering plants are therefore preferred over cut flower arrangements.
