1939 - 2013
Bathurst – Fred Cormier, 73, of Vanier Blvd., Bathurst, husband of 46 years of Donna (Robichaud) Cormier passed away on Saturday (June 8, 2013) at the Chaleur Regional Hospital.
Born in Port Elgin, N.B., he was the son of the late Alias and late Beatrice (Gallant) Cormier.
Fred taught: in Plaster Rock, N.B. (1962-64); Port Elgin Memorial High School (1964-1969) and he was the Guidance Counsellor at Bathurst high School from 1970 until he retired in 1993. Graduated from St. Clements School in Port Elgin in 1958; St. Joseph’s University of Memramcook (1960); University of Moncton (BA 1962), (B.Ed 1968); Acadia University M.Ed (Guidance) (1970). Fred was also the owner of North East Vacuflo.
He loved his family, playing chess, bridge, singing with Friends in Song, travelling, and his dogs. Over his lifetime, he was proud to have made 100 donations to Canadian Blood Services. His final donation was his brain to Dalhousie University Research Dept.
Affiliations: Rotary Club in Port Elgin, Kinsman Club in Bathurst, Chair of the Board of Directors of Bathurst School of Nursing, Knights of Columbus 4th degree of Holy Family, Friends in Song, New Brunswick Teachers’ Association, NB Retired Teachers Association (Bathurst Branch).
Besides his wife, he is survived by three sons: Michael of Calgary AB, James (Patti-Jo) of Bathurst, N.B., Andrew (Cheryl) of Oakville Ont.
One daughter, Kim (Bob) Despres of Saint John, N.B.
Two granddaughters: Danika and Abigail.
Five grandsons: AJ, Corey, John, Paul and Shamus.
Two sisters: Tilda (Wes) Anderson of Kelowna, B.C., Claudette (late Jeff) Roussel of Niagara Falls, Ont.
Four brothers: Harvey (Lola) of Sudbury, Ont., Rheal (Joyce) of Summerside P.E.I., Eric (late Marielle) of St-Jérome, Que., Paul (Jayne) of Saint John, N.B.
He was predeceased by his 1st wife, Camilla LeBlanc (1964); his infant sister, Mary; one brother, Adrice (age 3) and one sister, Aurore Taylor (2012).
Visitation will be held at Elhatton Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com) Bathurst on Tuesday, June 11, 2013 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at 11 a.m. from Holy Family Church, St. Peter Ave. Bathurst.
