1926 - 2014
Bathurst, NB – It is with deep sadness that the Milton family announce the passing of their father, Gerald Pearson Milton of Queen Elizabeth Drive, Bathurst, which occurred Saturday, February 22nd 2014 at the Chaleur Regional Hospital, Bathurst at the age of 87.
Gerald was predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Greta (MacDonald) Milton in 2012.
Born in Moncton, NB, Gerald was the son of the late Claude and Louise (Colpitts) Milton. After completing high school, he began studies toward a Mechanical Engineering Degree at Mount Allison University followed by Nova Scotia Tech. in Halifax.
In 1950 he accepted a position, in Bathurst, at the mill, known throughout the years by many names; among them: Bathurst Power and Paper, Consolidated Bathurst and Smurfit Stone.
After a 40 year career with the mill, Gerald retired in 1990 enjoying many years of golfing, gardening, hunting, and travelling south for winters.
Gerald is survived by sons; Bruce (Gail); Ralph (Lucille) both of Bathurst and a daughter Heather Hennigar (Deane) of Musquodoboit Harbour, NS.
He also leaves 4 grandchildren: Shelley Bowden (Edward), Drew Milton (Kelly), Jeffrey Milton (Kerri) and Jamie Milton, as well as 3 great-grandchildren.Cooper, Ty and Olivia.
There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at Elhatton’s Funeral Home Chapel, St. George St., Bathurst, on Friday, February 28th at 2 pm. A reception to follow.
Donations in memory of Gerald may be made to the United Church General Operating Fund or a charity of the donor's choice.
