1952 – 2014
Aurèle Albert Poitras, 62, of Victoria Ave, Bathurst, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday August 19, 2014, at the Chaleur Regional Hospital, Bathurst.
A dedicated retired Crown Prosecutor; he served over 30 years with the Department of Justice for the Province of New Brunswick. He completed his Bachelor degree in Social Sciences in 1974 at the Université de Moncton and graduated from the UNB Law School in 1977. He was proud to be 1 of 7 francophones to graduate law school that year. He served as president and past president of the Gloucester County Bar Association. For many years, he was an active member in the Kinsmen Club of Bathurst.
Born in Grand Falls, he was the son of the late Edouard "Ti-Wood" and late Gemma (Gagnon) Poitras.
He is survived by his wife, Anne Marie "Annie" (Roy) Poitras.
Two daughters: Julie Poitras of Hamilton, Ont., and Geneviève Poitras (Sam Casey) of Wainwright, AB.
Seven sisters and four brothers: Françoise Byers (Jim) of Clearbrook, Virginia, Jean (Réjeanne) and Clermont (Doris) both of Grand Falls, Gilberte Duguay (Michel Rivard) of Fredericton, Mario (Brigitte) of Chigaco, Illinois, Yolande Burnett (Rick) of Fredericton, Patrick (Jacqueline) of Miramichi, Danielle Cassista (Donald) and Marcelle Poitras both of Fredericton, Jane McManus (Paul) and Michelle Deschènes (John) both of Saint John.
Mother-in-law, Dorilda Roy (late Nazaire) of Petit-Rocher.
Brothers-in-law: George Roy (Nicole) of Petit-Rocher, Alvin Roy (Christine), François Roy (Sylvie) both of Orléans, Que., and Jean-Louis Roy of Ottawa, Ont.
As well as several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by two sisters: Bernadette, Marie, and three brothers: Carmel, Hermel and Joseph.
The body will rest after 2 p.m. Tuesday August 26, 2014 at Elhatton's Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com) 187 St. George Street, Bathurst. Visiting hours are Tuesday from 2pm to 4pm and 7pm to 9pm and Wednesday from 1pm until time of Funeral.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday afternoon, August 27, 2014 at 2 p.m. from the Our Lady of Rosary Church, 1575 St. Peter Avenue, Bathurst.
Donations in memory of Aurèle may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a favourite charity.
