1932 - 2014

Philippe Bernier of Bathurst passed away peacefully on November 29, 2014, at the age of 81, at the Chaleur Regional Hospital surrounded by his family.  

Born in East Bathurst, he was the son of the late Hector and Laura [Boudreau] Bernier of Bathurst.

Philippe was married to Alice [Roy] in 1954. He was a mechanic and operated Bernier’s Esso and in 1974 became the owner and operator of Bernier’s General Trucking. He finished his career as a school bus driver for both School Boards in Bathurst until his retirement in 1997.

He was a Lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed doing carpentry projects, boating and spending time at his camp and cottage with his family and friends.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons: Louis (Marcie Bennett-Bourret) of Cornwall, Ontario and Eric (Wanda) of Bathurst.

Four daughters: Colette Clowater (Wayne) and Annette Leet (Brent Faulds)  of North Tetagouche, Louise Bernier of Fredericton and Suzanne Cormier (Dean Godin) of Bathurst.

Thirteen grandchildren: Peter, Stephen, Marc, James and Jessica Bernier, Christopher Clowater, Kathryn Mustakas, Tiffany Roy, Vanessa LaPlante, Justin and Jennica Leet, and Matthew and Andrew Cormier.

Nine great grandchildren: Cody, Elias, Tristan, Kallie, Annie, Elliot, Dalia, Zailey and Emmeline.   

One sister, Therese Babin of Chamberlain Settlement.

Besides his parents he was predeceased by his son Kenneth; granddaughter, Andrea Clowater; three brothers: Joseph, Gerard and Edward; two sisters: Marie Richard and Evangeline Young and one son in law, Blair Leet.

There will be no visitation at the Funeral Home.  Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday December 3, 2014 at 2 p.m. from the Sacred Heart Cathedral, St. Andrew St., Bathurst.  

Donations in memory of Philippe may be to the Palliative Care Unit of the Chaleur Regional Hospital or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
