Kennah, Sister Stella (Mary Corita), 86, died in Caritas Residence, Halifax, N.S., on April 14, 2015.
Born in Bathurst, N.B. on Christmas day, she was a daughter of Charles and Loretta (Leger) Kennah.
Sister Stella entered the Sisters of Charity - Halifax, on December 8, 1946 and made her final vows on August 15, 1955. She received a BA from MountSaint VincentUniversity in 1972. Sister spent 37 years in education, ministering in Nova Scotia, Alberta, British Columbia, Quebec, New Brunswick and Bermuda before retiring in 1986. In 1987 she moved to Bathurst to take care of her mother until her mother’s death in 1989. Sister Stella was no stranger to illness herself, and when she moved to Halifax in 1990, it was thought that she would die within a relatively short time. This did not happen and Sister Stella lived life to the fullest until the age of 86.
Sister Stella is survived by her sister, Mildred (Stan) Stovin of Lindsay, Ont.; her sister-in-law, Elvera (Doucet) Kennah (the late Clifford); many nephews and nieces; grand-nephews and grand-nieces.
She was pre-deceased by her parents and step-father, Willie Cormier; two sisters: Evelyn Pellerin and Bella Hunter; three brothers: Gerald, Thomas and Clifford.
There will be no wake. Cremation has already taken place. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, April 20, in the Immaculate Conception Chapel in Caritas Residence. Burial will be in Gate of HeavenCemetery, Lower Sackville, N.S.
