Jason Leeman Smith of Clifton, N.B., passed away at the Chaleur Regional Hospital as a result of a car accident on June 18, 2016. He was 35 years old. He was currently working as a fisherman's helper, but also enjoyed working as a sous-chef for several years and helping on his brother's farm.
Born in Bathurst, he is survived by his parents, Leeman Smith and Marlene (Roy) Smith both of Bathurst.
His children: Brandon and Alysha Smith (Tracy Cavanaugh), Caleb and Denver Smith (Melissa Hachey).
Two brothers: Cory Carmen Widenmayer Smith (DJ) of Saskatoon, SK and Michael David Smith (Melissa) of Canobie.
His maternal grandparents: Ernest and Irene Roy of Trudel, N.B. Aunts and uncles: Ron Roy, Danny Roy, Lisa Roy, Janet Roy, Arthur Smith and Allan Smith. Several cousins; a nephew, Jansen and a niece, Piper as well as tons of friends.
He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents: John and Mary Smith, an Aunt, Christine McNeely-Smith.
Jason's greatest joy in life was to see people smile. He loved and was so proud of his children. He would give anyone a hand with whatever they needed, from helping someone with their firewood to giving them a hug when they needed one to telling them one of his stories (whether they were fact or fiction), as long as he left them with a smile. Dull moments didn't exist around Jay, he could provide excitement out a rubber band and a toothpick!
His other passion was cooking. He could take any random 3 ingredients and put together a gourmet meal, especially if one of them was "Shake and Bake".
He would say that he was from "Down Shore and has Down Shore Blood". He loved the area and it's people. It was "home".
A celebration of Jason's life will be held at Central United Church, Clifton, on Friday June 24, 2016 at 2 p.m.
Donations in memory of Jason may be made to the family in support of his children.
Arrangements are in the care of Elhatton's Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com) Bathurst.
