Bathurst - Ian G. Stothart, 84, of Fairway Court, Bathurst, passed away on Friday February 17, 2017, at the Chaleur Regional Hospital, Bathurst.
Born in Miramichi, he was the son of the late George and Katherine (Maltby) Stothart.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Myrna (Wood)Stothart. Ian was proud of his five children and is survived by his daughters Jane Trites (Kevin) of Salisbury, NB, Susan Stothart (Maurice Carriere) of Sudbury, ON, and his son, David Stothart (Cathy)of Halifax, NS. He was predeceased by his two daughters, Gayle and Margot. He is survived by five grandchildren, Carson, Ryan, Peyton, Michael and Emma.
Brother, William Stothart (Janet) of Miramichi.
Sister-in-law, Jean Stothart of Miramichi.
Several nieces and nephews.
He was pre-deceased by his brother, Gilmour.
A Chemical Engineer by profession, Ian was retired from the former Stone Container Paper Mill.
Summers were enjoyed at the Youghall Beach cottage. An avid golfer and long-time member of the Gowan Brae Golf Club, Ian could often be found on the green making that perfect putt.
A natural athlete, Ian played basketball throughout high school, university, and into adulthood. A good game of bridge was also a favorite past time.
Ian contributed to his community as a founding and life member of the Bathurst Kinsmen Club. He officiated basketball in the area for 30 years, retiring as a top rank "A" referee.
In his later years, Ian enjoyed gardening, meticulously tending to his roses. His grandchildren were always a source of great pride and joy.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Elhatton’s Funeral Home on Monday, February 20, 2017 during the hours of 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m.
Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at 2 p.m. from St. George's Anglican Church, King Ave., Bathurst.
