Dr. John Ryan passed away unexpectedly near his home in Tugun, Queensland, Australia, on Sunday March 12, 2017.

Loved and will be missed by all of his extended family, companions, friends and colleagues.

John was known, admired and greatly respected around the world as an academic, a member of the legal fraternity and as a raconteur.  A native of Bathurst, NB, Canada, his career began as a Beaverbook Scholar.  He went on to become a Law Lecturer (Queen’s University, Belfast), Dean of Law (University of Canterbury), Head of School of Taxation and Business Studies (University of New South Wales) and Barrister at Law.

John subsequently enjoyed a long and happy retirement with his "pals" in his beachside community in Queensland.  Our Thanks to John’s friends and neighbours, Queensland Police and medical staff at the Gold Coast University Hospital.

He is survived by one brother, Dr. J.A. Ryan of San Diego, CA and several nieces and nephew.  He was pre-deceased by his siblings: Sheila Harper, Mary Burns and Charles Pat Ryan.

 Family funeral and cremation has taken place in Queensland, Australia.
