It is with great sadness that we the family wish to announce the passing of Mr. Leonard Martel, loving husband of Yvonne (Pitre) Martel, of Miramichi Rd., which occurred at the Chaleur Regional Hospital in Bathurst, on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at the age of 79. Born in Bathurst, he was the son of the late Leopold and late Marcella (Lavigne) Martel.
Leonard worked as an electrician for various companies in Bathurst. He retired from the former Brunswick Sawmill in 2003. He was a very kind and generous man, a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and brother. His greatest love was the faith he had in Jesus.
Besides his loving wife Yvonne, he survived by his children: Nicole McGraw Harvey of Lamèque, Louise Stephenson (Jan), Yves Martel (Deborah), Daniel Martel Michelle, all of Saint John.
His brothers: Paul (Marie) and Roger Martel, both of Bathurst.
His sisters: Cecile Allain, Dorina Valentine, Jeanne (Freddy) Gallant, all of Bathurst.
Marguerite-Rose (Ranald) Pouliot of Quebec City, Marcella (Jean-Yves) Vienneau of Petit-Rocher.
13 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
Leonard was predeceased by a son Raymond, a sister, Yvette, and a brother Hermenegilde.
There will be no visitations at the funeral home. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 21st, 2018 at 10 a.m. from the Evangel Pentecostal Church, Basin Rd., in Bathurst. The family wishes to send a special thank you to David Ward for all his time spent with Leonard, Suzanne Aubé for her love and support, the staff of the 2nd West floor, and to Lloyd Branch of the palliative care unit of the Chaleur Regional Hospital for their care and compassion during Leonard’s illness.
