It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Roger Picot, formerly of O'Neil Dr., Bathurst, which occurred Thursday, March 7, 2019, at the Robert L. Knowles Veterans Unit, Bathurst at the age of 84.
Born in Bathurst, he was the son of the late Hector and Adeline (Doucet) Picot.
Roger was employed by the City of Bathurst his entire working career, rising to the position of Director of Public Works until his retirement in July 1994. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
Born into a large musical family, he was a self-taught musician and was well known in the area for his talent and his clear and distinctive tenor voice. Always the life of the party, he entertained with his repertoire of jokes and songs. He was a member of many local bands over the years and longtime member of the Holy Family Church choir.
Roger was an avid game hunter and fisherman and enjoyed many a trip upriver. He was an honorary member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1935.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Simone (Hachey) Picot; also survived by his five children: Shirley Noel (Pierre) of Dartmouth, NS, Maureen Picot (Tim Aube) and Michelle Valley (Jay), both of Bathurst, Louis Picot of Moncton and Denise Savoie of Beresford.
13 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
He is survived by three brothers: Raymond (Barbara) of Berwick, NS, Leonard, Salt Spring Island, BC and Paul (Jackie) of Bathurst.
Three sisters: Rita Duval and Isabelle Fitzpatrick (Ron Jessulat) both of Bathurst and Georgina Laporte (Emery) of Brossard, QC. Several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brothers: Alfred, Vernon; sisters: Marjorie and Rose Marie.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of the Veteran’s Unit for the excellent care they gave to Roger, for their professionalism and compassion. Their kindness will never be forgotten by the family.
There will be no visitation at the Funeral Home. In celebration of Roger’s life, a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Family Church at 2 p.m. on Monday, March 11th, 2019.
