Nigadoo - On the morning of November 20th, 2023, DONALD Arthur McGinn, husband of Irma (Despres) took his last breath surrounded by his family, after a short battle with cancer at the Chaleur Regional Hospital at the age of 83.
Born in Fredericton, he was the son of the late Clement and Stella (Toner) McGinn.
Beside the love of his life Irma whom he was happily married to for over 60yrs he is survived by two children: Shawn McGinn (Louise) of Nigadoo and Paula Hope (Derek) of Sussex.
Two grandchildren: Matthew Dykeman (Christine) and Martina Comeau (Paul); two step-grandchildren: Joshua Hope (Justine) Maverick Hope; two great-grandchildren: Paisley and Riley (Comeau); two step great-grandchildren: Landon and Abbigail Hope.
Two brothers: Leroy McGinn (Frances) of Fredericton and Douglas McGinn (Martina) of Ottawa, ON.
Don was pre-deceased by a daughter, Brenda, brother, Brian and sisters: Eva and Wendy.
Don was a proud to call Nigadoo his home for over 60yrs, was very involved with his community and was Mayor of Nigadoo for several years. Having a passion for nature and the woods, he pursued a career he could be proud of as a Forest Ranger in Bathurst with the local DNR. He really enjoyed being outside and making maple syrup with his best friend and family, it was a sure sign of spring when you smelled them making syrup. He will be forever remembered for his love of playing softball and his woodworking projects.
There will be no visitation at the funeral home. Funeral mass will be celebrated Monday, November 27th, 2023 at 11 a.m. from St-Polycarpe Church, Petit-Rocher.
Donations in memory of Donald may be may to the Canadian Cancer Society or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
