Joachim “Jo” Otto Julius Sillig, passed away on Saturday, December 21, 2024 at the Chaleur Regional Hospital, Bathurst after a brief illness.

Born in 1929 in Berlin, Germany, he was the son of the late Julius and Elfride Sillig.

He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Grace (Smith) Sillig.

Sister in laws, Kathleen Fleury of Bathurst and Lois Dickson of Salmon Beach. Several nieces, grand nieces and grand nephews.

Jo was predeceased by a stepbrother George Ermisch, sisters-in-law, Frances Peterson (late Eldon), Rhoda Scott (late George) and Jessie Rosborough (late Earl) and brother-in law Jimmy Smith.

Jo was educated in Germany and immigrated to Ontario in 1957. He met and married Grace Smith, the love of his life in April of 1966. Jo had a successful career in Architectural Design with the province of Ontario until his retirement. He enjoyed designing several buildings and his passion also included his gardens at home from which he won awards for. He had a great love of nature and the outdoors. In 2022 Jo and his wife moved to Bathurst to be closer to family.

There will be no visitation at the funeral home. A funeral service will be held at Elhatton Funeral Home Chapel (www.elhatton.com), on Thursday January 2, 2025 at 2pm.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at the Vienneau Residence as well as the nurses and doctors at the Chaleur Regional Hospital for their excellent care.
