Mercedes Picot passed away peacefully September 15th at the Foyer Notre Dame de Lourdes in Bathurst just 8 days shy of her 92th birthday.
Mercedes, the daughter of the late Jean-Baptiste Landry and Cécile Thériault, was the widow of J. Adolphus Picot and a long time resident of the city.
Her early life was marked by the death of her mother and two sisters during the Spanish Influenza of 1920.
She is survived by her seven children:
Charles of Montreal,
Carmel (Charles) Junod of Lignerolle, Switzerland,
Anne (Paul) Thériault of Saint-Anne (N.B.),
Maurice of Vancouver (B.C.),
Janet (Gérald) Pitre of Bathurst,
Lorraine (Gordon) Picot-Hawley of Ottawa and
Gerard (Pauline) of Miramichi.
She also leaves ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren along with her half-sister Maria Landry of Bathurst.
She was predeceased by three brothers and four sisters.
Mercedes Picot was a member of Holy Family and Notre-Dame du Rosaire Parishes in Bathurst and Saint Matthew’s in Grand Bay/Martinon.
Her funeral will be held at Holy Family Church, Bathurst at 11 o’clock Monday, September 18th. Visitations at Elhatton Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com), St. George Street, Bathurst, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 on Sunday, September 17th.
