Bathurst … James “Jim” Knowles, 92, of Bridge St., Bathurst, passed away on Thursday, September 11, 2008, at the Chaleur Regional Hospital, Bathurst, following a brief illness.
Born in Clifton, James was the son of the late Lyndon and Margaret (Breckenridge) Knowles.
James was a veteran of World War II, having served with the Royal Canadian Army, the Cameron Highlanders of Ottawa, in Canada and overseas. He was a member of the Herman J. Good, V.C. Br. 18, Royal Canadian Legion, Bathurst.
James worked at Eddy Building Supply for over 35 years. He was an active member of First United Church.
James leaves to mourn, his wife of nearly sixty-one years, Ruth (Buttimer), and one daughter, Joyce MacLeod, (Rev. William), New Maryland. James is also survived by one sister, Viva Hinton (Elmer) of Bathurst, and by three loving grandchildren, James (Jennifer), Jeremy (Genevieve), Jillian (Mike), and by three great-grandchildren, Sheumais, Abbigail, and Aiden, as well as by several nieces and nephews.
James was predeceased by brothers, Richard, Charles, Harvey, Winston, Robert, Reginald and a sister, Beulah.
The body will rest after 2 p.m. Friday at Elhatton's Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com), Bathurst. A celebration of James’s life will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. from the First United Church, St. Patrick St., Bathurst. Burial will be in the United Church Cemetery, Bridge St., Bathurst. Visiting hours are Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Memorial donations to First United Church would be appreciated by the family.
