We are saddened to announce the passing of Etha Elizabeth (Jagoe) Ellis on Friday March 20, 2009 at the age of 59 at the Chaleur Regional Hospital in Bathurst, after a lengthy but courageously fought battle with cancer.
Born in Bathurst, Etha was the daughter of Freda (Knowles) (Jagoe) Carey and the late Ethan Jagoe.
Etha is survived by her devoted husband and best friend of 40 years, Murray, and her three children Stacy (Kathy) of Porters Lake, NS, Ricky (Karen) of Chamberlains, NF and Cindy (David) of Lake Echo, NS; her seven grandchildren- Ryland, Landon and Madilyn Ellis, Jorja and Halie Ellis and Isaah Hendsbee and his baby sister, who will arrive in August.
She is also survived by her mother and stepfather Freda and Kenneth Carey; two sisters, Donna Brune (Dale), and Emily Ellis (Gary); four brothers Ellis Jagoe, David Jagoe, Alan Jagoe (Marlene) and Kevin Carey (Sandra), and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father Ethan Jagoe and her baby brother Kenneth Carey.
Etha worked as a bookkeeper for Sir Eldon Ltd while raising her family. She was an avid gardener, hunter, bowler, bird watcher and card player, and loved being active whether it be snowshoeing, cross country skiing, boating, fishing, a night of dancing and fun, or a long walk collecting glass on the beach. Etha devoted many years to the Canobie Women’s Institute, the Ladies Orange Benevolent Association, the Canobie Church Choir and had served her church as a Sunday School teacher.
Deeply devoted to her family, Etha touched all those around her with her constant strength, benevolence, wisdom and humour. She is at peace in heaven and forever in our hearts.
The family will receive visitors and friends on Monday from 2 until 4 pm and 7 until 9 pm at Elhatton’s Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com), Bathurst.
The funeral service will be held at Christ Church Anglican, Clifton NB on Tuesday (March 24, 2009) at 2 p.m.
