Gertrude Vivian Hickey
It is with great sadness that the Hickey family announces the sudden passing of their mother, Gertrude Vivian (Lapointe) Hickey on May 27th at her residence in Belledune.
Born in Doyleville in 1929, she was the daughter of the late Peter Paul and Mary Alice (Godin) Lapointe.
Gertrude was predeceased by her husband, Gabriel Hickey in 2000 and one son Lymon in 1948.
She is survived by her thirteen children, Sons: Fenton (Carmel Maher), Granvel (Barb Hinton), Glen (Judy Doucet), Darcy (Anna Mann) all of Bathurst; Wayne (Anita Roy) and Mark (Lisa Meunier) of Beresford; and Kevin (Jackie Abernethy) of Cochrane, Alberta. Daughters: Wendy Harmer (Mike) of Milverton, ON; Myra Egan (Francois) of Campbell River, BC; Darlene Hickey (James Squires Jr.) & Stacy Hickey-Buraglia (Jean-Jacques) of Bathurst; Gale Seifert (Jorg Dieter “Nick”) of Pointe Verte and Stephanie Talbot (Michael) of Belledune.
She is also very lovingly survived by 31 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
She is also survived by her sisters Alphonsine (late Arnold) Hickey of Bathurst and Barbara (late Ronald) Furlotte of Beresford.
She was predeceased by sisters, Leona Hickey, Olive Gauthier, Lou Bishop & Antoinette Foran and brothers, Lorenzo and Edgar Lapointe.
Gertrude was a loving wife and wonderful home maker all of her life. In addition to raising her thirteen children, she also looked after many other children. She was loved and well known as the “Nanny” of the Parkwood Heights neighborhood, where she lived for 31 years.
Mom, Nanny we all loved you and we will miss you dearly.
The body will rest after 2 p.m. Friday at Elhatton’s Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com), Bathurst. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday (May 30, 2009) at 1:30 p.m. from Holy Family Church, St. Peter Ave, Bathurst. Visiting hours are Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 and Saturday from 11:30 a.m. until time of Funeral.
