Bathurst - Mrs. Jean Clara (Russell) Pettigrew, formerly of Vanier Blvd., Bathurst, passed away on Sunday (November 14, 2010) at the Chaleur Regional Hospital, Bathurst, at the age of 92.
Born in Bathurst, she was the daughter of the late Allan and Jessica (Geikie) Russell.
She was pre-deceased by her husband, Jack Pettigrew (1973).
Jean was the last surviving member of her immediate family and is survived by:
One son; Tommy (Joan) of Bathurst. One daughter; Jean Cobham (Frank Delabio) of Ottawa, ON.
Jean was a loving grandmother to Christine Cobham (Joe Larivière), Andrea Cobham (Richard Young) and Andrew Cobham (Jaclyn), all of Gatineau, QC, and Jodie Aubé (René) and Todd Pettigrew (Sheri) both of Bathurst, and a dearly loved great-grandmother to A.J. and Michael Larivière, Markus, Shaughnessy, Madeleine and Gabriel Young, Brittany, Courtney and Brooke Pettigrew.
Jean also leaves behind several nieces and nephews who were all very special to her.
Jean will be missed by all who knew her, who enjoyed the company and wisdom of such a fine lady.
Jean was pre-deceased by a son, Russell in 1975; 4 brothers, Charlie, Harry, Frank, Byron; 3 sisters, Bertha Hains, Lorna Thomson and Reta Russell.
Jean retired from Consolidated Bathurst, the former Bathurst Power and Paper, where she was employed for over 40 years. After her retirement she continued to manage the Consolidated Bathurst Credit Union until the age of 75. During her lifetime, she also contributed in many ways to her community , especially to the Ladies Auxiliary of the Herman J. Good, V.C. Br. 18 of the Royal Canadian Legion, where she served in various roles and as President.
There will be no visitations at the Funeral Home. A celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday afternoon (November 17, 2010) at 2 p.m. from the First United Church, St. Patrick St., Bathurst. In Jean's memory, donations may be made to a charity of the donors choice. Arrangements are in the care of Elhatton's Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com), Bathurst.
