Bathurst - Mrs. Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Kent, 89, wife of the late Sydney Kent (1954), of Bay View Village, Bathurst and formerly of South Tetagouche, passed away on Monday (November 22, 2010) at the Chaleur Regional Hospital, Bathurst, after a brief illness.
Born in Harbour Breton, NF, she was the daughter of the late Captain Henry and Ellen (Piercy) Hynes.
She is survived by six children; Pat Kent of Thunder Bay, ON, Susan Doucet and Charlene Roy (Gordon) both of Bathurst, Steve Kent (Betty) of South Tetagouche, Allie Kent (Lucille McCurdy) of Moncton, Helen White (Garnet) of River Hibert, NS. Six sisters: Dot Warner, Anne Surette and Margaret Riggs (Stan), all of Halifax, NS, Theresa Cook of BC, Mary Maher (Pat) of NF, Susie Orman (Lloyd) of Lower Sackville, NS.
15 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, several nieces and nephews.
She was pre-deceased by daughter; Joan (2004), a son; Donald (1984), 6 brothers; Joe, Clarence, Steve, Sandy, Hugh, Henry and a sister; Elly Rose.
Betty was a Life member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Herman J. Good, V.C. Branch 18 of the Royal Canadian Legion, Bathurst and was very active in the annual Poppy Campaign. She was an avid bingo player, cribbage, enjoyed reading, sewing, quilting, knitting, had a large collection of salt and pepper shakers and was well known for her “Green Thumb”, all her plants survived with her T.L.C.
The body will rest after 2 p.m. Thursday at Elhatton's Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com), Bathurst. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday afternoon (November 26, 2010) at 2 p.m. from the Holy Family Church, St. Peter Ave., Bathurst. Visiting hours are Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 and Friday from noon until time of Funeral.
