The death of Ada E. Smith, wife of the late Harper L. Smith, formerly of Janeville, occurred Thursday (July 26, 2012) at the Chaleur Regional Hospital, Bathurst, at the age of 93.  In recent years she resided at the Foyer Notre Dame de Lourdes until her recent illness.

Born in Janeville, NB, she was the youngest of four daughters to the late Melvin and Ethel (McGilvery) Ellis.  She resided all of her life in this area.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was pre-deceased by her three sisters; Annie Foley (late John), Edrie Hornibrook (late Frederick) and Edna Blair (late Donald), also by three nephews; Robert and Donald Hornibrook and Robert Blair.  Ada was also pre-deceased by her sister-in-law; Shirley Ayer (late Allison), Rhoda Scott (late Bayne), Twila Ayer (late Herman) and Neta Kaye Hicks.

Left to mourn her loss are nieces and nephew; Katherine Shellmer (late Vincent), Helen Knowles (late Robert), Donna Gummer (Peter), Janet Millar (David), Faye Robertson (George), Susan Johnston (George) and Kenneth Hornibrook (Ethel), special sister-in-law, Leona Smith who lived with Ada for thirteen years after Harper's passing.  Also surviving brothers-in-law; Hales Smith (Dorothy,) Arthur Smith (Melba), Harry Smith (Thelma) and sister-in-law, Betty Miller (William), many great-nieces and great-nephews.

Ada was a past provincial president and Life Member of the N.B. Women's Institute, a past president and Life Member of Central United Church Women and past secretary and life member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Herman J. Good, V.C. Br. 18, Royal Canadian Legion, Bathurst.  She was a kind and generous lady who will be missed by all who knew her.  She loved her family, friends and neighbors and had a special love of little children.

The remains are resting at Elhatton's Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com), Bathurst.  Funeral Service will be held on Saturday (July 28, 2012) at 2 p.m. from Central United Church, Clifton.  Visiting hours are Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 with a Ladies Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion service at 7:30 Friday evening.  Interment will be in the Highland View Cemetery, Bathurst.
