1950 – 2015
It is with tremendous sadness that we, her family, announce the death of Nancy Ward of Bathurst, at the age of 65, which occurred Tuesday, December 1, 2015 following a brief, yet courageous, battle with cancer.
Born in Bathurst, she was the daughter of the late Sidney Ward and the late Phyllis (Ronalds) Ward Furlong.
Nancy was predeceased by grandparents: Wendell & Ida Ward and Harrison & Floretta Ronalds, as well as step-father, Clarence Furlong.
Nancy will be fondly remembered and missed by her sister, Polly Wesenberg & brother, John Furlong (Manon Pelletier), several nieces and nephews: Tara, Clay, Amy, Rick, Joel, Josiane, Claudie, Erika, and one great-niece, Aniston; as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Nancy recently retired from the BEST program where she enjoyed many years of activities and companionship geared toward people with special needs. In recent years, following the death of her mother Phyllis, Nancy was fortunate to be accepted into the loving arms, home and family of Alvina Allain. In the short time she was with Alvina, Nancy transformed into a happy and positive person who enjoyed all that life had to offer. She looked forward to road trips, holidays and weekends away with Alvina and her special friends Claire & Pauline.
Nancy had a childlike wonder of the world and life. She looked forward to all celebrations and holidays and was anxious for Santa’s visit this year. Like all of us, she had certain quirks and rituals which included being in bed early Christmas Eve as to not interfere with Santa. Nancy loved country music, the color pink, cats, her hamster and doing various crafts.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, December 4, 2015 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 at Elhatton Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com) Bathurst. Funeral will be held on Saturday, December 5, 2015 at 10:30 from St. George’sChurch, Bathurst.
Donations in memory of Nancy may be made to the Bathurst SPCA and the BEST Group (in care of Sheila Rogers).
