Bathia Campbell (Anderson) Scott

It is with sadness at our loss but with appreciation for a life well lived that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother Bathia (Thea) Scott after a brief illness at the Chaleur Regional Hospital, Bathurst on January 16, 2018 at the age of 95.

Thea was the only child of Ernest and Jeannie Ann (Still) Anderson, born December 20, 1922 in Greenock, Scotland. She graduated from Aberdeen Teachers’ College and spent her war service near her home on the Clyde River teaching children who were displaced by the bombings in London. It was there she met and married, on April 4, 1944, Clinton Scott, a soldier in the North Shore NB Regiment. Thea arrived in Canada aboard the Ile-de-France at Pier 21 Halifax April 4, 1946 and experienced her first taste of a Canadian winter shortly thereafter in Janeville, NB where she and Clint lived before moving to Bathurst. Her teaching career was put on hold as she devoted her life to her family, son Ernest and daughter Norma. The sudden passing of Clint in 1962 brought Thea back to teaching; first at Superior School, then for many years at JG Chalmers, and finally Parkwood Heights Elementary where she retired from in 1984. She also spent three years in the late 1960s as the Supervisor of Elementary Teachers for the former School District 4. Thea was a long-time member of St. Lukes Presbyterian Church and its Atlantic Mission Society where she held various positions, as well as the Bathurst Branch of the NB Society of Retired Teachers.

Thea is survived by her daughter Norma and son-in-law Paul Aucoin, Bathurst, her daughter-in-law Marg Scott, Bathurst, grandchildren Clinton (Kate) Scott, Fredericton, Jennifer (Gary) Waite, Solihull England, Doug Aucoin, Saint John, and Shanna Aucoin (Jason Scott), Halifax, and great-grandchildren Raili and Gabriel Scott, Samuel and Maisie Jean Waite, and Ronan Scott. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews in the Scott family, and cousins in the Still and Anderson families.

Thea was predeceased by her parents Ernest & Jeannie Ann (who immigrated to Canada in 1947 to be with their daughter and her family), her husband Clinton, her son Ernest (2014), and an infant grandson Jeffery Scott (1974).

The family would like to thank the caregivers at Southern Comfort Villa where Thea lived for the past two years for their kindness and care.

As per Thea’s wishes, there will be no visitation. Her arrangements are in the care of Elhatton Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com) of Bathurst. A funeral service will take place on Friday January 26 at 2 PM at Elhatton’s Funeral Chapel. The funeral service will be conducted by Rev. Glen Sampson.

The family requests that any donations in her memory please be made to the local scholarship fund of the NBSRT, the memorial fund of St. Lukes Church, the Palliative Care Unit of CRH, or a charity of your choice.
