It is with sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of John Duncan which occurred at the Foyer Notre Dame de Lourdes on Tuesday, October 24th, 2023, at the age of 76.
Born in St. Boniface, Manitoba he was the son of the late John and Etoile (Farrar) Duncan.
He leaves to mourn his spouse of 50 years, Sharon Duncan, their sons: Stephen (Andrea) and Michael (Sherry) and five grandchildren: Jaden, Alissia, Callie, Anabel and Ella. One sister-in-law Cathy, she was his favourite sister-in-law, and he was her favourite brother-in-law.
Two nieces and one nephew.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by his sister, Anne Logan.
John graduated with a BSc in geology and worked as a geologist in various provinces for over forty years. His greatest dream was to find the mother lode.
John was a quiet man who enjoyed the outdoors, our camp at Pabineau Lake, feeding the birds, fishing for seabass, bonfires on the beach and watching the ocean, with a coffee in his hand.
Lots of travel memories include a river cruise from Prague to Budapest, two weeks in Iceland, winters in Texas, California, and Florida.
John dabbled in watercolors and arts and became a talented wood carver while in Texas. He attended many classes and workshops. Though his greatest pass time was tinkering - always taking things apart, never putting things back together and always daydreaming of the perfect boat.
A special thank you to the caring staff of Foyer Notre Dame du Lourdes for their kindness to John.
As per his wishes there will be no visitation or funeral service.
Donations in memory of John may be made to the Bathurst Area School Milk Fund, 1425 King Ave, Bathurst, NB, E2A 1S7 or a charity of one’s choice.
Arrangements are in the care of Elhatton’s Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com), Bathurst.
