Howard ‘Howie’ Dempsey, born in 1955, in Bathurst, N.B., son of the late Isalee (Knowles) and late Thomas Dempsey, died peacefully at Chaleur Regional Hospital Tuesday, May 14, 2024, with Elaine Lanteigne, his spouse and his siblings by his side.

Besides his parents, Howie is predeceased by his sister Elaine (late Frank) Scott and their children, Kevin, Paul and Tanya Scott.

He is survived by his spouse Elaine Lanteigne, siblings Shirley (late Manford) Sealy, Carlson ‘Mike’ (Joanne), Patricia (late Byron) Scott, Wilma (late Fred), Peter (Elan), and Rhonda (Hadley) Smith and Elaine’s children Lee Ann (Tracy) Ellis, and Matthew LeCouffe (Sarah) and her other family members. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews whom he cherished.

Howie had a career for over thirty years with the local paper mill, Consolidated- Bathurst, until its closure. He then worked locally with local fishermen and most recently with East Coast Ocean Products (Fred Arseneau), whose staff became like a second family to him and treated him royally. He also continued with running the family farm on a smaller scale, including his horse of twenty-four years, Mindy, who never worked one day of her life. He did this farm work with the help of many neighbors and friends in later years who were more than willing to lend a helping hand.

Howie was quiet, witty and kind hearted. He battled his second round of cancer bravely and openly with Elaine by his side.

Cremation has taken place. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, May 17, 2024 at Central United Church, Clifton from 1 p.m. until time of funeral at 3:30 p.m. Donations in memory of Howie may be made to Central United Church, Charlie’s Cat Rescue or a charity of the donor’s choice.
