Bathurst - Donald 'Don' Dickie, 63, husband of Josie Dickie, of White Lane, Bathurst, died Wednesday (November 26, 2003) at the Chaleur Regional Hospital, Bathurst, after his battle with cancer ended while surrounded by family, friends and the compassionate staff of the Palliative Care Unit.
Born in Bathurst, he was the son of the late Randolph and Freda (Goguen) Dickie.
Don taught school for 35 years, 31 of which were at J. Gordon Chalmers, Bathurst. Numerous friendships were made during his teaching career and have remained close friends. He was an active member of the NB Fur Harvesters, Retired Teachers Association and Holy Family Knights of Columbus. He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, trapping and enjoyed his time at his camp.
His love of woodworking has created many cedar strip canoes, 'Dickie Baskets', tide clocks, which can be found in homes across the country.
Besides his wife, the former Jocelyne 'Josie' Frenette, he is survived by:

2 nieces and 3 nephews.
The body is resting at Elhatton's Funeral Home, Bathurst. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday afternoon (November 29, 2003) at 1:30 p.m. from Holy Family Church, St. Peter Ave. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. For anyone wishing to send tokens of sympathy, the family would appreciate donations to the Cancer Society, Chaleur Regional Hospital Palliative Care Unit, or a favorite charity.
