It is with great sadness that the family of Raymond W. Lavigne, 96, announces his passing on Friday, September 28, 2007 at the Chaleur Regional Hospital, Bathurst, after a brief illness.
Raymond was born in Bathurst, NB on July 18, 1911 to Henry and Elizabeth (Greenlow) Lavigne. He was the last remaining member of his immediate family. He worked at Consolidated Bathurst for 36 years as a Maintenance/Painter Foreman. He retired at the age of 59 from the mill and then had another career with the Department of Education, teaching at local trade schools for several years. He was a member of the 25-year club at Consolidated Bathurst, and he and his wife Regina were members of the Holy Family Club 200.
Raymond was pre-deceased by his wife Regina (Roy) on October 26, 1999.
He is survived by his daughter:
Julie Lavigne of Magog, Quebec,
His son Robert (Catherine) of Hudson, New Hampshire, USA and his son Paul of North Vancouver, BC.
He is also survived by his grandchildren Carole Bherer, Jean-Marc Bherer, Robert Bherer, Karen Kerry, Julie Suarez, Michelle Lavigne and Alexander Lavigne. His great-grandchildren are Justin, Jenna, Alexandre, David, Yoann and Charles.
Raymond also has numerous nieces and nephews in the Bathurst area.
Raymond up until his illness was always interested in local and world news, enjoyed watching hockey and loved to play cards. His family was very dear to him, and he always enjoyed family gatherings. Raymond’s family would also like to thank his caregivers … most importantly Edith Stevens and also Florence Comeau and Nancy Berube. With their patience, caring and understanding Raymond was able to live the independent life he cherished. The family also wishes to thank the staff of the Palliative Care Unit who treated Raymond with such great care and concern.
Visitation will after 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the Elhatton Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com), Bathurst. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday (October 1, 2007) at 11:00 a.m. from Holy Family Church, St. Peter Ave., Bathurst. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Donations may be made to the Palliative Care Unit at the Chaleur Regional Hospital or a favorite charity. Visiting hours are Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 and Monday morning from 9:00 a.m. until time of Funeral.
